Say what, PADI?

Everyone has heard about PADI, but hardly anyone can tell you what it means! What everyone does know is that it has something to do with diving. So many people say: “I am going to get my PADI!” So, who and what are they, what does it mean to you and what does it mean to us?

PADI LogoSunchaser Scuba is a PADI dive center! Being a PADI dive center means that we offer PADI certification courses and adhere to their standards. For us it means they provide us with training opportunities and information. For you it means you can come and get your PADI with us and you get a PADI scuba certification card, recognized and accepted worldwide.
PADI stands for Professional Association of Diving Instructors. PADI is the largest training organization in the world. With over forty years experience, over 136 000 PADI Professionals and more than 6200 dive shops and resorts worldwide. Located in more than 180 countries and territories you will be able to find a PADI Scuba Instructor able to teach you with translations of PADI materials available in at least 26 languages.

PADI was founded in 1966 by John Cronin and Ralph Erickson when they decided to break diver training down into different courses. Rumor goes that John brought a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label over to Ralph and by the time the bottle was half down, PADI was born…

PADI courses go from entry-level such as the Open Water Diver to professional levels such as Divemaster and Instructor. Be sure to have a look at our website if you like more information about the PADI courses we offer! Ever expanding PADI has branched off also offering technical diving such as decompression diving, trimix diving and gas blending.

PADI has structured all of its courses in a similar way so that no matter where in the world you start your course you will be able to finish Learning in the poolit elsewhere. On top of that you will receive the same top quality instructions anywhere in the world. Start by self-study, reading the book, watch the DVD and with the help of these fill out knowledge reviews. Once you think you have mastered the knowledge we will go over it with you and test your knowledge. Or of course these days you can just do the theory on-line with the PADI E-learning. Next go on to practicing the mastery of skills in the pool or confined water and eventually in the ocean. Step by step we will help you to obtain your next certification and climb up the PADI ladder. If you are not sure if you want to commit to a full course, start of by doing a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience to see if you like it and get in the water the same day!

PADI is more than just teaching divers to dive though. PADI is concerned about the underwater world and understands that we have to teach other people and that as ambassadors of the underwater world, we have to educate others to preserve what is so precious to us all. They teamed up and founded the Project AWARE foundation.

I hope this cleared up some confusion and interested you in becoming part of this PADI family, as a professional, or just to get your PADI! Be sure to have a look on our website to find out which of these courses we offer and to get you started on your scuba diving adventure! Let us know if you have any questions on how it works and how to start, how much they cost and where to stay when you are down here!
