A look back in time!

As it is BEYC’s 40th anniversary this week we figured it is time to give them a big shout out for this months blog. First of all we would like to congratulate the Bitter End Yacht Club with its 40th anniversary.

BEYC For those who don’t know BEYC, it is a beautiful hotel, located in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. It features 58 oceanview cottages, nearly a mile of beach and waterfront, a full service marina (suitable for yachts up to 240-feet), and 70 surge-free mooring balls for transient charter and cruising yachts. In the early 70s, the Hokin family found Bitter End while sailing in the British Virgin Islands. Back then it was just a shore front pub with 5 cottages.

BEYC OriginalThe Hokins kept on returning over the years and one day Bernice mentioned that it would be nice to have a place to go ashore for a day or two. After saying that, Myron Hokin offered to buy or lease an acre from the current owner to build themselves a cottage. Instead, the owner decided to sell them the whole property and in 1973 they did so.  With no experience but a lot of enthusiasm and grandchildren in hand they started to explore the surrounding islands sharing their experiences with the many visitors building the resort to what it has become today. BEYC A sustainable resort, generating its own electricity, collecting and distilling its own water, utilizes solar power and uses treated grey wast shower water to irrigate the hillside gardens. Today, Bitter End has become one of the worlds finest water sports resorts with a fleet of sailboats, skiffs, windsurfers, daily excursions, hiking, SUP and of course diving! It is an amazing place for everyone with plenty of things to do, if you are bored at BEYC, then it is your own fault :). If you want to find out more about the Bitter End Yacht Club or have decided that you should also come and see what it is all about then be sure to check out their website for the latest information and prices.
